Tamara Harvell
My Story
Tamara Harvell may have a number of degrees, but who’s counting? Actually, she is: an A.S. in Biology, a B.A. in English and Creative Writing, an M.S. in Teaching, Learning and Leadership, an Ed.D. in Education Leadership and Management where she graduated summa cum laude, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing still in the works. She’s published poetry and a short story in academic journals, won an award for publishing an education resource and edited creative and educational writing. But Tamara doesn’t let it go to her head; she still swims in her daydreams, vivid dreaming, quirky ideas, and flights of fancy. Her neurodivergent brain squirrels from sweet ganders into fantasy to apocalyptic scenarios which feed her writing. Surrounded by her cats and Collies, she thrives in her rural Oklahoma life with her supportive husband and colleagues.

Reading Cocoon
When I am lucky enough to read a book, I snuggle in bed or on the reclining loveseat, generally cocooned in a soft blanket. I have a reading light that can attach to books to help with focus. I can’t read well if there is a lot of distraction, such as a television or the dogs going berserk over a squirrel in the yard.
My Reading Preferences
Books I have read this year, so far, include The Martian, Tithe: A Modern Day Faerie Tale, Spinning Silver, and Nova. Of these, I really loved the realistic rollercoaster of The Martian. I have also read Dreamland Burning that covers the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921.

My preference is fantasy fiction. I have read a few books about the fae since my novel that I am writing, My Faerie Tale, will need information specific to the lore, so learning about the types of fae will be beneficial to my tale.
